Three Students Receive National Honors

Kids are honored by the National Merit Scholarship Program

Two seniors and another student who lives in the district have been named “Commended Students” for the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Grace Moraca and Samuel Rubenstein received a letter of commendation from the program announcing that they were among the 34,000 across the country being recognized for the achievement. David Paul, who lives in the district but attends a private school, was also honored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Out of the 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, only the top 5 percent received the honor. The students represent some of the most academically talented students in the country, according to Chartiers Valley spokesman Chuck McCartney.

The program will continue to narrow the students down until 8,300 finalists are notified in March. Those winners are eligible for various scholarships through the program.
