Special Needs Students Enjoy 'Life Skills' Prom

Chartiers Valley hosted this year's Life Skills prom Tuesday for area special needs students.

hosted this year’s Life Skills prom Tuesday for special needs students from across the area.

The “Night on the Town” prom at the high school began at 9:30 a.m. and included music from a DJ, a performance by the Chartiers Valley jazz band, dancing and a magic show.

This event was open to staff and students from , , , South Fayette, Carlynton, Bethel Park, Cornell, South Allegheny and West Allegheny school districts.

All students received either a corsage or boutonniere made of silk flowers in their school colors, along with a backpack, picture frame, prom photo and other goodies.

Buffie Fanzo, who is Chartiers Valley’s Life Skills teacher, was instrumental in making the prom a success. She also helped withat Chartiers Valley.

Other local people who raised money, made donations or helped with the prom included former Penn State head coach Tom Bradley and Collier Township police Officer Bill Oslick.
