School Lunch Prices Going Up

The ticket prices to sporting events will also increase

School lunches in Chartiers Valley will be going up by a dime next year.

The accepted the increase through the food service provider, which is in the second year of a five-year agreement.

The agreement includes an increases of 10 cents on lunch prices and 15 cents on breakfast.

The board justified its decision by saying the prices were competitive with other local schools, as well as stating that Pennsylvania has mandated part of the increase to make sure that reimbursements received for any free or reduced meals are not offsetting production of those meals. No board member was opposed to the increase.

Meanwhile, the majority of Tuesday night’s school board meeting was used as a public forum for community members to discuss . However, there were other athletic items on the agenda.

Athletic Director Frank Vulcano Jr. submitted a request that would raise adult and student ticket prices by $1 each. According to Vulcano, the new ticket prices are comparable to other local schools and will assist Chartiers Valley in bringing more money into the athletic programs. All board members present at the meeting approved the change.

School directors Patricia Frey, Jeff Choura and Patti Figorski were absent from the meeting.
