Pink Out Helping to Fight Breast Cancer

The boys and girls basketball teams will be going pink to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Morgan Figura knows family members who have been affected by breast cancers, so she wanted to do something to honor the survivors and help others.

The senior Lady Colts shooting guard is organizing for Tuesday night’s boys and girls basketball games at .

Figura expects the gymnasium to be filled with fans wearing pink T-shirts, and the Chartiers Valley basketball squads will be wearing jerseys with a touch of pink on them. She’s sold 200 shirts at $10 each and expects to get a new shipment in Monday.

“It’s just fun to play out of the norm and … it’s fun playing in a gym with all the pink,” she said.

She’s organizing the same event started by her former teammates Paige Aleski and Lexy Herron. Last year, for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

There will be 10 gift baskets that will be auctioned off during the third quarter of the boys game against Mt. Lebanon. Morgan said she’s had help from teammates and others to make sure she can focus on her game against Thomas Jefferson.

“Our team as a whole has done a good job of making sure it isn’t a distraction,” she said.
