CV Board Approves Resignations, New Hire in Athletic Department

Notes from the April 23 Chartiers Valley School Board meeting.

The Chartiers Valley School Board held a regular public meeting April 23 to vote on a number of items of school district business.

During that meeting, several resignations, as well as appointments, were made in the athletics department.

The board formally accepted the resignation of Spencer Stefko as head varsity girls basketball coach. Stefko submitted his resignation to Chartiers Valley’s athletic director Frank Vulcano Jr. on April 12. The resignation is effective immediately. To read more on this topic, click here.

In addition, the board formally accepted the resignation of Mike Macy, assistant varsity wrestling coach, effective immediately and hired Anthony Poletti as assistant football coach for the 2013-14 school year for a stipend of $5,917.

  • Several teachers were approved to teach summer curriculum writing at a rate of $29.38 per hour each, not to exceed $2,400 each.
  • Kathryn Phillips was approved as the middle school cheer coach for the fall and winter seasons of the 2013-14 school year, for a stipend of $1,327 per season.
  • Seton-LaSalle High School will use the Chartiers Valley football field and stadium for varsity football games on Sept. 6 and Oct. 4. Those dates do not interfere with any Chartiers Valley School District activity at the stadium. The cost will be determined by the 2013-14 Facilities Policy.
  • The varsity boys basketball team will attend the 2013 Sand Jam KSA Basketball Tournament from Dec. 4 to Dec. 8 at Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas.
  • Special education teachers Judith Schulte and Natalie Zamanski will retire at the end of the 2012-13 school year. School nurse Aylea Ptachcinski will resign, effective at the end of the 2012-13 school year.
  • Zachary Smith was hired as a high school chemistry teacher for the 2013-14 school year at the salary of $43,717.
  • Alan Welding and Charlie Copetas were approved as coordinators for the Summer Virtual Academy at a stipend of $1,000 each. Several instructors also were approved, at the rate of $50, per student, per course.
