CV Mounts Big Comeback to Beat South Fayette in WPIAL Playoffs

The Chartiers Valley boys’ basketball team came back in the second half to beat rival South Fayette in the WPIAL basketball playoffs. Also, the Lady Colts beat USC and will play Mt. Lebanon in the AAAA semi-finals.

Top-seeded Chartiers Valley mounted a furious comeback in the second half to beat rival South Fayette and advance to the semi-final round of the WPIAL basketball playoffs Friday night.

Things were looking bleak at halftime when the Colts trailed South Fayette 35-30 going into the intermission, and things appeared to sour even more when the Lions scored the first seven points in the third quarter. But the Colts got back in the game by mounting a fast comeback to take a 47-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

South Fayette then once again turned the momentum and roared to a 9-point lead with 5 minutes to go in the game. But CV came back again to cut the lead to 2 with 3 minutes left and took the lead shortly after.

The top-seeded Colts never looked back to defeat South Fayette 67-62 at Canon-Mac High School and advance to the WPIAL semi-finals. CV will play Beaver on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the Chartiers Valley Lady Colts beat Upper St. Clair in their AAAA WPIAL playoff game to advance to the semi-final game. The girls’ basketball team beat USC 55-52 on Friday night at Canon-Mac High School.

The Lady Colts will play Mt. Lebanon in the WPIAL semi-final game.
