Wearing Purple

Poetry and Tarot meet...with a little fashion advice on the side.

I had the priveledge of doing tarot readings with a whole roomful of wonderful, strong, insightful, wise warrior women the other evening.

One of the things that kept popping up in conversation was the idea of "wearing purple". This comes from the poem "Warning" by Jenny Joseph...

"When I am an old woman I shall wear purple

With a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me"

The poem is about living life with whimsy, fun and to it's fullest - at any age. It is a gentle reminder not to take ourselves overly-seriously...an idea well suited to the Fool / Innocent card.

It is also a gentle reminder to be our most authentic self...wear purple if you like it, wear a red hat if you are a red hat wearing kind of person. I don't think there is any one card that speaks to that - discovering your authentic self is a thread throughout tarot readings, and one of the goals of intuitive work.

It is a lovely poem, well suited to a lovely evening and a beautiful idea.

I have a red hat...now where did I put that purple shirt...
