Today's Tarot - Two of Coins

Thought for Spring inspired by the two of coins tarot card

Happy Vernal Equinox everyone!

It’s balance day. Hours of light and darkare balanced. Folklore says you can balance an egg on its end (although that is supposed to be possible any day with a room temperature egg that has been propped up that way for a couple of hours to let the yolk settle)

The two of coins is the tarot card associated with balance. Holistic Health talks about balance about every other breath. We hear about it all the time – balancing home and work. Balancing body, mind and spirit. Balancing stress and play. Let’s not even talk about balancing checkbooks.

Sometimes “balance” is made to sound like some sort of Goldilocks utopia, where everything is just right, every single minute. It isn’t reality. It isn’t even really balance.

Balance doesn’t mean perfect. Balance doesn’t mean bland. There is more to balance then just one idealized sweet-spot.

Balance isn’t about getting rid of extremes and opposites. Balance is about not living your life there. Balance is about finding the middle way, and returning there as often as you can, as best you can. The middle path isn’t flat, it still has ups and downs, joys and sorrows. Living a life in balance means not letting those ups and downs dominate you. Extremes happen. Unbalance and stress, even disease can happen when you build a house and live there, making a lifestyle out one side of life or the other. Balance, contentment, coping skills…those come with constantly returning – ongoing fine re-tuning . Science calls it “dynamic equilibrium”. Things aren’t stagnant, still or perfect. They change all the time – but stay in an average range overall.

That is the real nature of balance.
