Holistic Hints - The Forbidden

Coffee...not the contraband it used to be.

Every healing system, it seems has something, some one 'forbidden fruit'. Many natural health experts put coffee in this category.

To which I raise my cup of Kenya AA and say...ah, no.

There is no one-size-fits-all cure, so there are no one-size-fits-all contraband.

True, some peope with certain medical conditions should avoid coffee or choose decaf. Fortunately it seems many of the benefits of coffee and tea are not realated to the caffeine content, but rather come from the other anitoxidants and natural plant substances.

Think of it this way...tea is a leaf. Coffee is a tree seed. Not much is done to them by way of processing. They are roasted a bit, and have hot water poured through them. That counts as pretty natural if you ask me...especially if you stack that up against the carbonated water, artificial flavors, colors and sweeteners in soda (pop, whatever you call it). Even the so-called 'corn sugar' is corn syrup that has been processed with enzymes into the high fructose variety that has the sweetness similar to cane sugar.

If you ask me, soda is closer to the universal contraband than coffee or tea, (especially if you use just a little common sense about the sugar and cream you add to your cup of joe).  If you don't metabolize caffeine well, just go decaf . Not a problem with the natural / saline decaf methods that are now widely available.

It isn't for everyone, but for me, I'm grabbing life by the coffee beans.
