Typo Forces Township to Clarify Summer Camp Rates

Scott Township commissioners said they plan to break ties with IN Magazine.

A typographical error in a community magazine prompted to cut ties with the publication and clarify the cost of the summer recreation camp.

The mistake was in the recent edition of the IN-Chartiers Valley magazine, which each resident receives in the mail, that listed the price for the summer camp for non-residents $20 cheaper than the actual cost. It is unclear as to how the typo occurred, however, the board said it appeared to be the publication’s mistake.

The fee for first child non-residents should have read $98.

Various commissioners expressed previous concerns with the publication as well as what the ramifications would be for participants who demand the summer program for the price printed in the magazine.

The board decided during its voting meeting Tuesday night to hold off approving the payment to the publication, and the commissioners said they will discuss with the representatives of IN Magazine as to how to reconcile the mistake.  The commissioners think that anyone who reads the ad likely will want the published price, so they think the publication should be financially responsible for making up the difference to the township.

Additionally, the commissioners voted to disassociate the township from IN Magazine and go back to producing the Scott Topics newsletter.

Also during the board meeting…

The commissioners discussed the contract for the pension consultant, which until now, has been through US Asset. However, the individual representing US Asset has now moved to Pierce Park Group.  They talked about whether to stay with US Asset and get a new representative or follow the current rep to her new company, Pierce Park. After the discussion, the board voted to move with the current rep to Peirce Park.
