State Sen. John Pippy Won't Seek Re-Election

Pippy did not explain why he will give up his 37th district seat at the end of the year.

announced Tuesday that he will not seek re-election in 2012.

The Republican from Moon, who has represented the 37th state senate district for eight years, released the following statement:

"I am announcing today that I will not seek re-election to the Senate of Pennsylvania in 2012. Since 1997, I have had the pleasure of serving and working alongside the constituents of the 37th Senatorial District and 44th Legislative District. Over the years, I have met many wonderful and dedicated people in the public and private sectors, and am grateful for the support and encouragement of so many. It has been truly an honor and privilege to serve the people of Pennsylvania and I will be forever grateful for that opportunity."

Pippy did not indicate why he is not seeking re-election. His district includes portions of Allegheny and Washington counties, including and . It's unclear who might run for Pippy's now vacant seat.

Senator Pippy is a really good man. I'm about as democrat as they come, but I voted foor Se.Pippy everytime he ran. I am so disappointed, I cant even tell you. Does anyone even have an inling why he is not running? Remember he was in Iraq during his last re-election bid, he won by a mile. Ijust now saw this I am just aghast

And unless you're changed your stripes and are now a registered Republican, you won't be able to choose his successor.
