Sliding Hillside Worries Scott Residents

Scott Township is having another problem with a sliding hillside.

The hillside between the Greenbriar Drive rear alley and is continuing to pull and soon might take the narrow access road with it.

Greenbriar resident David Robinson told the that he’s worried many residents will lose access to their garages if the ground continues to slide.

He said as many as 36 houses would be affected if the alley collapses. The hillside is moving enough that it’s starting to destroy a chainlink fence at the top near the edge of the paved alley.

“It’s not about if, it’s about when,” he said during the township’s Tuesday night workshop meeting. “It’s been OK until now, but it’s slowly eroding.”

He blamed the erosion on a large garage built behind the Manorview Apartments that the commissioners estimate has been there for 35 years.

They directed their township engineers to look into the issue to make sure there isn’t a major problem soon.

“I just wanted to bring it up because at some point it’s going to be an emergency situation,” Robinson said.

Commissioner Bill Wells said he thinks they should send a letter to Manorview to begin dialogue about fixing the issue. Commissioner David Jason added that the problem be able to eased with some sort of catch basin to collect rain water run off.
