Scott Park Ball Fields Getting Upgrades

Many improvements are coming to Scott Park and the surrounding ball fields.

Many improvements are coming to Scott Park and the surrounding ball fields.

Herb Ohliger of the Scott Township Athletic Association announced last week that they are working to put up new lights in the two baseball fields at the park, building new sidewalks to the concession stands and trying to improve the outfields.

The Glendale Volunteer Fire Department helped the STAA by using its ladder trucks to improve the lights on the small field in July and they’re not in the process to fix the lights on the big field now, Ohliger told the Scott Township commissioners on Oct. 9.

The upgrades are being paid for by the STAA, Ohliger said.

He added that they are also adding sidewalks from the concession stands to the bathrooms. However, there still need to be improvements made to the baseball infield and outfields so they’re level and draining properly.

Meanwhile, the softball field next to the Scott Township Municipal Building is getting a small upgrade. Ohliger said they are installing stairs behind the batting cage in order to alleviate on-street parking problems on the other side of the field next to the Chartiers Terrace housing plan.
