Scott Commissioners Approve Summer Hires

Notes from the April 23 Scott Township meeting.

Scott Township Commissioners held a regular public meeting April 23 to vote on a number of items of township business.

The commissioners approved the hiring of several parks and recreation department employees for the summer season, for payment ranging from $8 to $9.25 per hour.

The following employees and positions were approved:

Ron Ellis as swimming pool manager for $7,100 and as aquatics director for $1,300; Monica Gigliotti as assistant pool manager for $6,350 and as water aerobics instructor for $9.25/hour; Joan Mulvihill and Carol Fishbach as cashiers; a position (unfilled) to handle season pool passes; several lifeguards; Stephanie Gigliotti as water aerobics instructor; William Evans as recreation director for $2,500; two grade supervisors and one arts/crafts supervisor for $1,000 each.

The following actions also were approved during the meeting. All actions were passed by an 8-0 vote, as Commissioner David Jason did not attend the meeting:

  • Scott Township will lease a portion of property from Chartiers Terrace Housing Association for use as a ball field for a period of 25 years, beginning May 1, 2013 and ending on April 30, 2038. The township will pay rent in amount of $100 per month.
  • East Carnegie Volunteer Fire Department will receive disbursement in the amount of $30,992 from the township for operating costs, and the cost of a new fire truck.
  • Bower Hill Volunteer Fire Department will receive its annual allocation from the township in the amount of $93,000 to be used for operating costs.
  • Sean Walsh d/b/a Nobby's Pizza was awarded the contract for operation of the concession stand at Scott Pool, beginning May 1, for a period of five years.
  • Steven Habovick will retire from the Public Works Department, effective May 10.
  • V-Systems will replace the swimming pool pump at a cost of $1,740.
