Motorists who frequently use Route 50 will be seeing a lot of orange cones for a while.
is set to begin next week and motorists and local businesses are bracing for the headaches expected from the long-term work.
PennDOT’s $6.8 million project will stretch from Bower Hill Road in Bridgeville to Boden Avenue near Carnegie. The work will repair the road surface while upgrading traffic signals, sidewalks, bridges and guardrails along the 3.5-mile stretch of road.
Most of the work will be done during off-peak hours. There will be various lane restrictions as construction crews move the work from Bridgeville east toward Carnegie. The work likely will be finished next spring.
- Weekdays (Monday-Friday) - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Weeknights (Monday-Thursday nights) - 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Weekends (Friday and Saturday nights) - 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Bridgeville, Collier, Scott and Heidelberg officials have been eagerly anticipating the construction project along the major thoroughfare. The work will coincide with that will also begin this summer.
Meanwhile, Collier, Scott and Heidelberg will use the construction work so they become compliant with federal disability laws.
