PennDOT Announces Road Closures

Numerous lane closures around town are expected this week.

Those pesky orange cones are a fact of life during the summer months, and you probably won’t be able to avoid them this coming week.

The state Department of Transportation is announcing a slew of construction projects this week around the area that will range from interstate exit closures to single-lane restrictions.

PennDOT said overnight milling and resurfacing on Route 50 will commence Thursday night, causing lane closures beginning at 8 p.m. Other work on the road in Collier will continue during non-peak daylight hours.

On the other side of town, construction crews will close the inbound Greentree exit ramp of eastbound Interstate 376 each night this upcoming week and next weekend. Greentree Road near the exit will also be reduced to a single-lane in both directions during those times as crews replace expansion dams on the bridge that crosses over the Parkway West. Closures and lane restrictions will begin each night at 8 p.m.

PennDOT said detour signs will be posted during the work and the best way to get around the construction is by taking the Route 51 northbound Exit 69C right before the Fort Pitt Tunnels, getting back on the Parkway in the other direction and exiting at the other side of the Greentree interchange.

Meanwhile, residents living near the former Mayview State Hospital will face intermittent closures in that area. PennDOT said there will be short-term closures on Mayview Road at Boyce beginning Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crews will be conducting geotechnical drilling and research from Monday until Aug. 2 in preparation for a Bridgeville replacement project.
