Four Newcomers Shake Up CV School Board

Four members of the CV Task Force won election to the Chartiers Valley School Board.

The will have four new faces when it begins next year.

, , and – all political newcomers sponsored by the CV Task Force for Academic Excellence –  won seats on the school board. Incumbent won a second term to the board.

, who was also part of the and nominated on the Republican ticket, received the fewest votes. Still, the others viewed this election as a grass-roots victory that began with their surprising upset in the spring primary.

“I’m not really sure what we expected, but I’m definitely pleased that Team CV has sparked a new interest in the community for academic excellence,” Zeleznik said. “I think it’s exciting that we’ve got a lot of interest. Not just by the people running for seats, but those supporting the candidates.”

Zeleznik led all candidates with 4,246 votes, and was followed closely by Kearney, who received 4,243 votes and Stevenson, who garnered 4,236.

“We’re very pleased and happy with the showing,” Kearney said. “It was a lot of hard work, and now we can savor and be grateful for people going out and voting for us. I’ve been really reading a lot and seeing where the budget is. We’ll be getting our feet wet … and getting mentoring from the current (school board directors).

Stevenson said the four new board members are looking forward to improving the district’s academics, but it will take some time to get “acclimated and familiarize” themselves with the issues.

“We definitely set high goals for ourselves, but you can’t be overly confident,” Stevenson said. “The hard work we put in really paid off. I can’t say enough about how hard we worked, especially in the primary.”

Huntoon received 3,889 votes while Poletti won re-election with 3,762 votes.
