Commissioners Look to Fill Vacancy
Four people are vying to fill the vacant seat on the board.
Three applicants were interviewed Tuesday night to fill the vacant seat on the left behind when Betty Ann Connors resigned last month.
Stacey Altman, Joe Senkinc and Dennis “DJ” Brooks each spoke for a couple minutes before Commissioner Bill Wells poked each of them with a couple of hypothetical questions.
The commissioners are expected to choose Connors’ replacement during the voting meeting on July 26, and that person until it expires at the end of the year. Altman and Brooks are vying for the seat i.

Brooks blasted the commissioners for making late adjustments to the interviewing schedule and originally placing the time an hour before the workshop meeting. One other applicant was not able to make it to the session because of the time change.
“A two-day notice, I think, is really out of line,” Brooks said.

Altman said she wants to be more involved with the community and thinks this is a good opportunity to help.
“Being in the neighborhood, I know some things are lacking and I’d like to fix them,” she said.
Brooks, who previously served as a township commissioner, said he did good work while on the board by helping streamline the 911 call system and improve the public parks.
“I know there are going to be some issues coming up, and they may not be real favorable to our constituents,” Brooks said, adding that the commissioners have to vote for what is right rather than with the pack.
Joe Senkinc said he thinks there needs to be improvements to Montgomery Avenue where he lives.
“There are so many things that need done, especially on Montgomery,” he said. “It’s a disgrace.”
Also during the meeting…
- A candle light vigil to remember the victims of 9/11 will be held at dusk on Sept. 11 at Scott Park near the amphitheater.
- There is some discussion between the commissioners of whether the recently passed garbage ordinance should be repealed. The board is expected to discuss it further at the next meeting.
