Collier Commissioners Maintain Seats

George Macino and Wilson Durisko roll to the Republican nominations

The Republican nominations for t will go to George Macino and Wilson Durisko, each of whom received slightly more than 40 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results.

First-time runner, Michael D. Crosby, received 18.4 percent of the votes.

Since there weren’t any Democratic candidates running, write-ins were allowed and there were over 250 received as well as a handful of absentee ballots that still need to be verified. Preliminary statements that the candidates received from the polling locations indicated that Durisko and Macino each received more than 100 write-ins, which would be enough for them to secure the nomination for the Democratic ballot as well. If that is the case once the results are verified, both will be unopposed for the two seats in November.

Both relatively new to the Collier Township Board of Commissioner, Macino and Durisko supported each other in this campaign and feel that helped achieve positive results.

“I am very pleased that people have chosen to keep both of us on the board,” Macino said. “It’s great to have the opportunity to work with this board again.”

Macino, who owns G & S signs in Great Southern Shopping Center, said the business helped him get to know people in the community but he didn’t use it as a springboard in the election.

Durisko was also pleased with the results. Campaigning is a lot of work and Durisko had the support of his wife, who spent all day at the polls today as well. They also have a lot of family in the township who supported the campaign efforts.

“I am very excited at the probability of coming back for another term,” Durisko said. “I am happy to be able to get back and focus on the contract with public works, and working on the community parks. This is a good result and it should be the final step.”

Crosby declined to comment on the election results.
