A woman crossing Carothers Avenue in Glendale was struck by a car and seriously injured Thursday.

A woman crossing Carothers Avenue in Glendale was struck by a car and seriously injured Thursday night.

Glendale fire Chief Tom Salerno said the woman was crossing the street about 5:40 p.m. when a motorist driving toward Carnegie tried to avoid her, but hit her and then crashed into an apartment building.

The woman, who was not identified by authorities, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Salerno said.

The building in the 400 block of Carothers Avenue sustained structural damage around the doorway and a tow truck had to remove the car.

The busy road was closed for about an hour while Scott Township police investigated the crash.

It’s not known if the driver, who was not identified, will face any charges.
