Woman Accused of Walmart Theft Waives Charges to Court

Updates from the court of District Judge Gary M. Zyra.

The following is an update on court cases heard by District Judge Gary Zyra on Aug. 8. Zyra oversees Heidelberg and Scott Township.

A woman accused of retail theft at Walmart in April has waived her charges to court.

Gaylen Thomas, 41, who has an Ohio address, was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property after reportedly shoplifting clothes from the Walmart in Raceway Plaza on April 16.

Formal arraignment was scheduled for Aug. 8.

Charges Withdrawn/Reduced

  • A charge of criminal attempt (theft) was withdrawn against Thomas Zekler, 29, of McKees Rocks. A charge was defiant trespass was moved to a non-traffic citation. Heidelberg police charged Zekler on July 13.
  • Charges against Michael Doody, 18, of Mt. Lebanon, of harassment and making terroristic threats were withdrawn, and a second harassment charge was reduced to a non-traffic citation. Heidelberg police charged Doody on Aug. 1.

Waived/Held for Court

  • Jason McCoy, 35, of Presto, waived to court charges of DUI and speeding. A traffic offense was withdrawn. Heidelberg police charged McCoy on June 30.
  • Matthew D'Amico, 20, of Canonsburg, waived to court charges of DUI. Charges of possession of marijuana and use/possession of drug paraphernalia were withdrawn.
