Fugitive Arrested on PAT Bus with Hunting Knife

A man wanted by Texas authorities was found riding a Port Authority bus with an 11-inch hunting knife hidden in his pants. Read about that and more crime in the weekly Bridgeville police blotter.

A man wanted by Texas authorities was found riding a Port Authority bus with an 11-inch hunting knife hidden in his pants.

said they had received reports of a man causing problems at a Terrace Street residence on Aug. 13, but he gave them a false name before they released him.

They later learned it was 37-year-old Daniel Shirley, who has lived in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Texas recently. Police said they also discovered he was a fugitive and wanted on various warrants in Texas.

After searching for him for more than a week, police said he was eventually arrested on a PAT bus along Vanadium Road on Aug. 22. Police believe he was heading to the Greyhound Bus Station in Pittsburgh had had a ticket stamped for North Carolina.

He also had a large hunting knife in the back of his pants, police said.

Officers took him to Allegheny County Jail while he awaited extradition back to Texas.


Worthless checks: Bridgeville police said they are searching for Robert Macvitte, 31, of Harmony, after he allegedly wrote three bad checks worth more than $600 to a business in the 100 block of Commercial Street. Police said Macvitte is accused of writing bad checks to other businesses in the area and has multiple warrants out for his arrest.

Drug charges: Bridgeville police said they charged Lynn Richardson, 25, of South Fayette, with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver and false reports to police on Aug. 30. Police said Richardson was also found with drugs while at Allegheny County Jail.

Public drunkenness arrest: Matt Rinyu, 24, of Bridgeville, was charged with public drunkenness after borough police said he was being disruptive and using profanity at a Dewey Avenue business in the early hours of Aug. 30.

DUI arrest: Michael Lehman, 22, of Pittsburgh, was charged with drunken driving after Bridgeville police said they saw him speeding on Washington Avenue in the early hours of Aug. 25.
