Store Clerk Assaulted Over Cigarettes

Two people were arrested after they allegedly tried to steal cigarettes from a Scott Township gas station before assaulting the store clerk. Read about that and more in the weekly Scott Township police blotter.

Two people were arrested after Scott Township police said the tried to steal cigarettes from the Sunoco gas station on Cochran Road and then assaulted the store clerk.

Police said Julia Pipich, 24, of Castle Shannon, tried to steal the cigarettes on Oct. 1. When the clerk tried to intervene, Timothy Benacci, 39, of Mt. Lebanon, assaulted the worker, police said.

Police said they charged Benacci with assault and harassment. Pipich faces retail theft, public drunkenness and drug charges.

Police did not say how badly the store clerk was injured.

Scott Township

Man accused of causing problems at court hearing: Scott police charged Jermaine Jamerson, 26, of Winchester, OH, with disorderly conduct after investigators said he was causing problems at the district magistrate’s office on Oct. 4.

Workers chase thief out of store: Scott Township police said they are investigated the attempted theft of a camera from Walmart on Oct. 1. Police said store employees chased the person with the camera before they dropped it in the parking lot.

Man accused of fighting at grocery store: Abdul El-Haqq, 54, of Carnegie, was charged with assault, harassment and public drunkenness after Scott police said he fought with a woman in the Bottom Dollar parking lot on Oct. 2.

Drugs found in storage locker: Scott Township police charged 38-year-old Brian Burks with drug law violations on Oct. 1 after officers said they found drugs in a Creek Street storage locker he was renting.

Man arrested for banging on doors: Jeffrey Aldridge, 40, of Scott was charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct after township police said he was banging on doors in the 500 block of Carothers Avenue on Oct. 6.

Disorderly conduct charges: Scott police said they charged Shawna Ptomey, 47, of Carnegie, with disorderly conduct following an argument at the First National Back in Raceway Plaza on Oct. 4.

Fight leads to charges: Thomas Lopez, 47, of Scott, was charged with assault after township police said he go into a fight in the 500 block of Carothers Avenue on Oct. 5.

False report to police: Jill Demacio, 28, of Scott, was charged with filing a false report to police following an incident in the 600 block of Carothers Avenue on Oct. 1, township police said.

Assault charges: Charles Tigner, 42, of Scott, was charged with assault and harassment after township police said he go into a fight in the 500 block of Carothers Avenue on Oct. 7.
