Speeding on McLaughlin Run Road Becoming a Big Problem

Bridgeville police wrote 32 speeding tickets and seven other traffic citations on the road in October.

Speeding is becoming a major issue on McLaughlin Run Road in Bridgeville.

Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said his department wrote 32 speeding tickets and seven other traffic citations along the road in October.

King said residents near Coolidge Street started complaining about speeders in early October, prompting officers to increase patrols in the area. The results surprised King when the roadway overtook Bower Hill Road as the town’s new speedzone.

“We received some complaints on McLaughlin and we’ve been hitting it hard. It’s unbelievable,” King said. “If we’re writing this many tickets then there’s an obvious problem there.”

And the problem is continuing in November. King said they’re on pace to match the October ticket results this month.

“I don’t ever remember it being like this,” King said. “It’s certain roads at certain times.”

The speed limit is 25 miles per hour in the area, and King said they’ve clocked most people driving faster than 40 and, in some cases, 50 mph.

However, the recent installation of three “speed humps” along Ridge Road apparently is helping to slow motorists down, King said. He said officers monitored that area last week and didn’t ticket any motorists for speeding.
