Shoppers Chase Suspect After Walmart Purse-Snatching

In addition, several retail thefts were reported at local stores recently.

Several bystanders reportedly jumped into action after a man tried to steal an elderly woman's purse in the parking lot of Walmart on July 14.

According to the Scott Township police report, a white male grabbed a purse from an elderly customer in front of Walmart just before 3 p.m., but dropped the purse and ran when bystanders started to chase him.

The victim did not lose any of her belongings. The man fled on foot, and police are investigating the incident.

In addition to this incident, several thefts were recently reported in area shopping centers:

  • Michael Stevenson, 43, of Pittsburgh was charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property, and making false reports to police after he was apprehended for shoplifting at Marshall's at 10:40 a.m. on July 3.
  • A retail theft was reported at the Bottom Dollar store on Washington Avenue on July 7 at 12:56 p.m.
  • A bicycle was reported stolen from outside of Walmart on July 8 at 2:25 p.m.
