Scott Township police Sgt. Matt Podsiadly was honored Tuesday night as the police department's officer of the year.

Scott Township police Sgt. Matt Podsiadly was honored Tuesday night as the police department’s officer of the year.

Podsiadly is part of the area’s drug task force and also an instructor for defensive tactics and the use of Tasers.

“It’s important to note that he was chosen by his peers, those who he works with to protect us,” Commissioner Pat Caruso said during the Tuesday night voting meeting. “He’s very deserving.”

Podsiadly has been with the department for nearly 10 years and was promoted to sergeant in 2010. Township officials said he was one of the youngest officers in the department to ever be promoted to that rank.

“You’ve been a tremendous asset to the community and you’ve done an excellent job,” Commission President Tom Castello said.
