Man Accused of Molesting Girl During Sleepovers

Police say Roland McFarland sexually assaulted his daughter's 9-year-old friend during several sleepovers in 2008.

Police say a Scott Township man sexually assaulted his daughter’s 9-year-old friend during several sleepovers in 2008.

Roland V. McFarland, 61, is charged with two counts each of indecent assault and unlawful contact with a minor, along with one count each of child endangerment, corruption of minors and false imprisonment.

According to a criminal complaint supporting his arrest, McFarland carried the girl to his bed on “several occasions” when she stayed over for sleepovers with her friend at their home in Glendale. The girl told police McFarland touched her inappropriately and made her touch his genitals. Other times, she was able to fight him off, police said.

said the girl, who is now 14, came forward last month after talking to her parents about what happened. Scott police Sgt. Jeff Skees said she didn’t discuss it before because she was “embarrassed and ashamed” about what happened.

However, the girl’s parents said they had suspicions and confronted McFarland in 2008. He denied the accusations, police said, and the parents decided the best way to handle the situation was to keep their daughter away from McFarland and his home in Glendale.

WPXI-TV is also reporting that police filed additional charges against Roland, accusing him of sexually assaulting a second girl. Police charged him with additional counts of corruption of minors, indecent assault, child endangerment and unlawful contact with minors.

McFarland is being held at Allegheny County Jail after he was unable to post bond.
