Crash Slows Evening Commute

Three people were injured Friday in a two-vehicle crash on Route 50 in Collier.

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that snarled the Friday evening commute on Route 50 in Collier.

Collier police said a motorist was pulling out of the ChemTech parking lot at about 4:30 p.m. when the vehicle was struck by another car traveling east on Route 50 near Thoms Run Road.

Two women and a man were injured and transported by ambulances to St. Clair and Allegheny General hospitals, police said. Officers investigating at the scene did not release their names, but said their injuries did not appear serious.

Traffic heading east on Route 50 was brought to a standstill for about a half-hour while cars heading in the other direction were slowed as crews removed the wreckage. The crash also caused traffic to back up at the Kirwan Heights/Heidelberg exit of Interstate 79.

The Kirwan Heights Volunteer Fire Department assisted officers at the scene.
