Police Conduct Surprise Truck Inspections

The surprise inspection on Route 50 in Heidelberg last week put 4 dangerous trucks out of service.

A surprise truck and trailer inspection on Route 50 in Heidelberg last week netted more than a dozen citations and put four dangerous trucks out of service.

Nine certified inspection officers from around Allegheny County spent eight hours Friday checking 23 trucks for problems.

said they took four trucks off the road for “serious equipment violations” and two other trailers were briefly taken out of service until they could be repaired on the site. Police also issued 18 citations to drivers and the businesses that owned the trucks.

This was the first Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program’s inspection of the year in Heidelberg. The borough’s police department in an effort to get unsafe trucks and trailers off the main drag that runs through town.

Officers from Pittsburgh, Bethel Park, Castle Shannon, Mt. Lebanon, Jefferson Hills and the county assisted Heidelberg police on Route 50.
