Man Pleads Guilty to ATM Scheme that Ripped Off Local Businessmen

A Pittsburgh area man accused of stealing thousands of dollars from two people who operate ATM businesses in this area has been sentenced to jail time after pleading guilty.

John Robert Sullivan pleaded guilty to two counts each of theft by deception and theft by unlawful taking after state police said he stole $415,000 from the two businessmen, who live in Scott Township and Bridgeville.

Sullivan was sentenced to 11 ½ to 23 months in prison and ordered to pay $350,240 in restitution last week, according to the Allegheny County district attorney’s office.

From January 2009 through June 2010, Sullivan duped the two men into lending him hundreds of thousands over numerous locations to install ATM machines across the region that in some cases never existed.

State police said Sullivan admitted to taking their money and either gambling with it at casinos or placing bets through bookmakers in Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

State police began investigating Sullivan in September 2010 and eventually charged him with dozens of theft counts in August 2011.

IF HE STOLE 415,000.00 WHY DOES HE ONLY HAVE TO PAY 350,240.00 BACK?

Accusations and convictions are two different things.

Not like it makes much of difference.... The victims will never see much if any money paid back......

Yep... The complaint said he tried to pay $1,000 back before the charges. He couldn't even do that.

It amazes me that people steal from hard working people and they 'think they will get away with it'??? Don't these people know they will get caught??? Idiots.
