A Beechview man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in the East Carnegie neighborhood that straddles Pittsburgh, Scott Township and Green Tree.
Mileek Grissom, 23, was pronounced dead at 3:44 p.m. at Mercy Hospital not long after the shooting in the 600 block of Noblestown Road, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that investigators charged 24-year-old Lamar Alston with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, evidence tampering, fleeing police and criminal attempt.
He apparently left the scene and was stopped by a and his dog.
Heidelberg police Chief Vernon Barkley said Sgt. Dennis Dixon and his German shepherd, Rocky, responded to the shooting scene to assist other officers. Rocky “tracked and apprehended” the suspect by biting him when he refused to listen to orders from police officers to put down his gun, Barkley said. He added that the suspect was taken to Allegheny County Jail.
“This is what all the training and mutual aid is about,” Barkley said.
Officers from Collier, Scott, Green Tree and Carnegie also assisted Pittsburgh police in arresting the homicide suspect.
Pittsburgh police are handling the investigation because it happened in their jurisdiction.
