Man Allegedly Exposed Himself to Women at Tanning Salons

Police say a Washington County man who came into two Collier Township tanning salons this month was looking for more than a tan.

The man apparently exposed himself to the women working at the two separate tanning salons when he came in to inquire about their rates, Collier Township police said.

Heath W. Piper, 31, of Canton Township, now faces numerous charges of indecent exposure, open lewdness, harassment, disorderly conduct and criminal attempt.

Police said Piper walked into the Sun Club in Great Southern Shopping Center on Oct. 6 and talked to a worker there about purchasing a tanning package. While she showed Piper around the business, police said he exposed himself as they were looking at tanning lotions on display.

The worker told police Piper continued to ask her questions about the shop even as he was allegedly exposing himself to her. He then “shook her hand and thanked her” before leaving the store, police said in a criminal complaint supporting the arrest.

Police said shortly after they investigated the incident at Sun Club, they went to Hollywood Tans inside the Collier Town Square warn workers of the man. However, the woman working there told them a similar man had been there earlier that morning and had exposed himself with his zipper down as they discussed tanning packages and oils. He left without purchasing anything, police said.

Ten days later, a worker at Sun Club told investigators the same man returned and asked to use the bathroom. While he was in the bathroom, she apparently contacted workers at the neighboring GNC store and asked them to come over.

Police said Piper returned from the bathroom with his zipper down, but did not expose himself because of the male workers from GNC were in the store.

The workers were able to identify his car and license plate. Police eventually tracked the registration to a Canton Township residence and arrested Piper on Oct. 17.

He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail on $8,000 percentage bond.
