A Scott Township man is heading to trial on charges he beat up a woman eight months pregnant and her mother during a fight in an alley last weekend.
said 23-year-old Daric Anderson got into an argument with the two women in the early hours of Sept. 1 and it quickly escalated into a fight in which he allegedly punched them and threw them to the ground.
According to a criminal complaint supporting the charges, the fight in the alleyway behind a Mansfield Avenue home involved the 20-year-old woman, who is eight months pregnant, and her 43-year-old mother. Police did not say what prompted the argument or how the suspect and women knew each other.
Police said the fight escalated when Anderson tried to push the pregnant woman to the ground. Her mother tried to stop Anderson and he allegedly pushed her down and punched her in the face, according to the criminal complaint.
He then struck the pregnant woman in “the upper torso” with his body and took her to the ground, police wrote in the criminal complaint. Police said he then was “on top of her and her unborn child” and punched her in the head and face several times.
Police said both women had several injuries on their faces that included cuts and bruises.
Police said Anderson, 20-year-old Roman Miliner and another man left the scene. They were found in the East Carnegie neighborhood of the township, police said, and Anderson was arrested.
Anderson was charged with aggravated assault of an unborn child, aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He waived all of the charges to trial prior to his preliminary hearing Thursday afternoon before .
Miliner faces underage drinking and theft charges after police said they found him on a stolen bike.
