Carnegie Man Facing Multiple Charges After Florida Arrest

Matthew Houghton, 25, faces numerous charges after allegedly shooting at a Scott Township man and then fleeing the state.

A Carnegie man who allegedly stole from a Scott Township man, fired a shot at him and fled has been found and arrested in Florida with two other people and a child, Scott Township police said Monday.

An arrest warrant for Matthew Houghton, 25—a registered sex offender, according to the Megan’s Law website—was issued after he allegedly fired a shot at a local man who caught and confronted him for stealing items from his car.

Scott Township Police charged Houghton on July 22 with aggravated assault, theft, illegal weapons possession, loitering and prowling, and recklessly endangering another person, in relation to that incident.

But court dockets show that three days later, on July 25, Scott police charged Houghton again, this time with three more offenses: flight to avoid apprehension, trial or punishment; interference with custody of children; and conspiracy for interference with custody of children.

Scott Township police Sgt. Steve Fury told Chartiers Valley Patch via email on Monday that Houghton, as well as two other people and a juvenile, were found in Florida and will be extradited back to Pennsylvania soon.

Fury said the group left the area in a vehicle stolen from the Carnegie area. The vehicle, owned by Houghton’s father, also was recovered in Florida.
