Firefighters fought a residential complex fire in Heidelberg early Thursday morning.
Fire crews from several departments were dispatched shortly after midnight to the blaze at 476 First St. The building is known to locals as the old Aleski Tavern.
High-tension power lines in the neighborhood were affected by the fire, knocking out power along Rt. 50 from from Collier Town Square into Heidelberg.
Heidelberg fire Chief Joe Wissel Jr. said no one was injured and the fire had been contained by 2 a.m. Fire officials said the residents were able to escape the blaze and they believe the fire started in the attic of the home. A portion of the roof on the right side of the building collapsed.
Cold temperatures caused the water from the hoselines to freeze on the ground. Crews threw salt on the roadways to prevent the roads and sidewalks from freezing.
Power to the area was restored by 2:30 a.m. Thursday.
The Allegheny County fire marshal was on scene to investigate the cause of the blaze.
In addition to Heidelberg firefighters, crews from East Carnegie, Kirwan Heights, Presto, Bower Hill, Glendale, Carnegie and Dormont also worked the scene.
