Eighty Four Man Killed in I-79 Crash

One person died Thursday night when a car crashed into a gasoline tanker near the Bridgeville rest stop.

A Washington County man died late Thursday night when the vehicle he was driving crashed into a gasoline tanker truck on Interstate 79 near the Bridgeville rest stop, an Allegheny County emergency dispatcher said.

Bradford Carter, 40, of Eighty Four, died at the scene of the crash, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner's office.

The crash happened shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday when the vehicle and tanker collided in the southbound lanes of I-79 in South Fayette.

State police shut down the roadway and hazardous material crews were called to the scene for the possibility of leaking fuel. Police were detouring cars onto the Bridgeville exit to avoid the crash scene.

It is so sad to hear of a death of any kind. I think this could have been prevented if the State Police set up the speed traps more often. It might keep the majority of the drivers who have to do 80mph or faster fro hurting others.

Maybe if the people in cars would respect the trucks as well as their fellow drivers crashes would happen less. Remember unlike your little car a truck cant stop on a dime. Just because the turn signal is on doesn't mean you have the right to cut the truckers off. To the Carter family sorry for your loss especially in such a tragic way.
