Family Rattled By Home Invasion

Two men tried to break into a Collier Township home shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The rattling at Kelly Buckholt-McCreery’s front door sounded like whipping wind until the Collier Township woman heard the rear door knob jiggling and her Husky dog, Max, began barking.

“I wasn’t really sure if someone knocked. With the wind, it could’ve been anything so I didn’t think much of it,” Buckholt-McCreery said. “But then I heard someone jiggling the front door.”

She yelled out asking who was there, prompting two men in hooded sweatshirts to run from her home. A neighbor told police one man had dark hair and was wearing a blue hoodie, while the other had sandy hair and was wearing a gray hoodie.

Buckholt-McCreery said she’s thankful that the men weren’t able to get in because her two boys were sick and home from school.

“The whole thing is weird,” she said. “You don’t expect that. It was scary because you never think it will be your house.”

She was also happy her family’s normally docile Husky named Max alerted them of potential intruders.

“He sits and watches and waits,” she said. “When they  started banging on the door, he started growling and that’s how I knew someone was there.”
