Electrical Fire Damages Bridgeville Home

Heavy smoke in the roof caused extensive damage.

Firefighters quickly extinguished an electrical fire that apparently started in the roof of a Bridgeville home Wednesday night.

The fire started shortly after 5 p.m. at 216 Hickman St. across from Holy Child Catholic Church.

Mark Lutton, who lives in the home, said the ceiling fan fell out of the roof, prompting him to call his parents. But the situation got much worse as he went into the kitchen to make the phone call.

A neighbor, who is a firefighter and saw smoke billowing from the house, kicked in the door and told Lutton that he had to leave immediately.

“I was thinking, ‘Look at what happened now. Just my luck.’ Then he’s coming through the door,” Lutton said.

Bridgeville fire Chief Bill Chilleo said the fire started in the roof and moved all through the ceiling of the house. He said they were able to extinguish the fire quickly.

“It was more smoke than anything,” Chilleo said. “Pretty routine actually. There were burn marks all the way through the attic.”

Fire departments from Fairview, Upper St. Clair and Presto assisted Bridgeville at the scene. The state fire marshal is investigating what exactly sparked the blaze.
