Elderly Drivers Crash Into Two Scott Businesses

Two elderly drivers crashed into separate Scott Township businesses within 45 hours of each other, although no one was seriously injured in either accident.

A woman accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake around 8 a.m. Thursday, causing her car to careen into the Tomatoes pizza shop next door to the , .

The unidentified woman and her husband, who was a passenger in the car, were evaluated at the scene, but not seriously injured. No one was inside the pizza shop, which has been open only part-time in recent weeks.

Tire marks could be seen on the tile floor and the cashier’s table was nearly broken in half. It’s not known how much it will cost to fix the damage.

“The whole car, not just the front end, was in the shop,” Salerno said.

The crash at that shopping center along Washington Avenue near Carnegie was less than two days after another elderly driver crashed into the at Raceway Plaza.

An elderly driver, who also was not identified by authorities, apparently put the car into the wrong gear and smashed through the front of the shopping center around 11 a.m. Tuesday. The damage to the building was minimal and the driver was not injured.

“It’s just this week, I guess,” Salerno said. “They’re trying to turn stores into drive-thrus.”
