Chartiers Valley Moving Forward with Police Officer at Intermediate School

Scott Township and the Chartiers Valley School District are beginning to negotiate a contract to have a "resource officer" in the intermediate school.

Scott Township commissioners and the Chartiers Valley School District are beginning to negotiate a contract to have a police officer in the intermediate school.

The township commissioners last week approved a motion to begin negotiations to install the “school resource officer” at the intermediate campus along Swallow Hill Road.

Last month, the school district announced it had spoken to the police chiefs in Scott and Collier about placing officers on the three campuses following the school shooting in Newtown, CT.

It’s not clear how the school district or Scott Township would fund the resource officer, or if they will use a current police officer from the department’s staff.

“We’d like to thank them for supporting this initiative,” the school district said in a statement on its website. “As we continue to work with the Scott Township commissioners, it’s clear they are dedicated to ensuring our students are safe. We appreciate their leadership with this initiative and look forward to continuing to work with them to provide a safe environment for our students.”
