Bridgeville Man Accused of Soliciting Sex Acts with 15-Year-Old Boy

A Bridgeville man is accused of soliciting sex acts with a 15-year-old boy working at the borough fire department’s Bingo night early this month.

Investigators from the Bridgeville and Allegheny County police departments said 54-year-old John F. Spang starting making sexual advances as the boy was volunteering at the weekly Bingo game on Dec. 3.

According to a criminal complaint supporting the charges, Spang asked the boy to wash his car windows for $20. Investigators said it was raining at the time and the boy thought it seemed strange, but he completed the task.

When the boy went to the bathroom, police said Spang followed him in. Spang then gave the boy a $20 bill with his phone number on it and told him to contact him after he finished working the Bingo fundraiser, according to the complaint.

The boy later contacted Spang, who then allegedly made sexual advances to him, police said. The boy ended the call and told his grandmother about the situation before both went to the Bridgeville Police Department the following day, investigators said.

“We were able to link that phone number up to Spang from a previous arrest warrant,” Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said. “Then we turned the case over to Allegheny County police detectives.”

Investigators arrested Spang on Dec. 7 on charges of corruption of minors, unlawful contact with minors, criminal use of communication facility and criminal solicitation.

Investigators said Spang knew the boy was 15 because he asked him his age at a previous Bingo night.

Spang is free on $5,000 bond and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17.
