“It looked a little smoky and I thought it was my glasses,” Gambone said. “I went around back and opened the basement door and it was full of smoke.”

“They’re bringing stuff out and, right now, it doesn’t look too bad,” Gambone said.

Firefighters closed Dewey Avenue between Chartiers and McMillen streets.

The Allegheny County fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. Firefighters from Upper St. Clair and Fairview assisted Bridgeville at the scene. Bridgeville fire Chief Bill Chilleo said the fire began in the basement below a waterline, which broke and kept the flames from spreading.

American Red Cross volunteers are assisting the three adults living in the house with food and clothing.
