Couple Will Stand Trial on Child Abuse Charges

Eric Abare and Kelly Broderick, who are accused of abusing their 3-month-old son, will stand trial on most of the charges filed against them.

Eric Abare, 25, of 844 McLaughlin Run Road, waived to court felony charges of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Subsequent charges of hindering apprehension and obstruction of justice were also waived to court.

He remains at Allegheny County Jail on $50,000 straight bond.

Meanwhile, a felony child endangerment charge against his 28-year-old girlfriend, Kelly Broderick, was withdrawn while a misdemeanor child endangerment charge was waived to court. Additional charges of hindering apprehension and obstruction of justice against Broderick for also were waived to court. Her bail was reduced from $20,000 straight bond to a $1,000 percentage bond.

Allegheny County police arrested Abare and Broderick in January after detectives said they abused their 3-month old son.

Investigators said the boy had multiple broken ribs and fractures in both of his legs when the couple took him to Children’s Hospital on Jan. 19.
