Collier police Chief Thomas Devin said the boy was walking with his grandmother when he “got away from her” and began crossing the road. He apparently looked for cars, but the vehicle likely was obscured because it was beyond the crest of the road.

Devin said investigators do not expect to file charges against the teenage driver. Devin said they do not think she was speeding because the vehicle stopped less than two car lengths after the impact.
