Accused Serial Burglar Heading to Trial

A Bridgeville man accused of stealing from unlocked cars during a five-month crime spree waived his preliminary hearing.

A Bridgeville man accused of stealing a litany of items from numerous unlocked cars during a five-month crime spree will head to trial on a laundry list of charges.

Nathan Weydener, 22, waived his right to a preliminary hearing before on Jan. 30.

The charges include 15 counts of theft, nine counts of access device fraud, nine counts of forgery, eight counts of receiving stolen property, three trespassing counts and two counts each of burglary, criminal attempt, loitering and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on $12,000 percentage bond at Allegheny County Jail while waiting for the proceedings to move to Common Pleas Court.

to fuel a heroin addiction until he was arrested Dec. 4. The charges date back to July 7, according to court records, but the thefts really began snowballing during the final two weeks of November. Bridgeville police reported five thefts from Nov. 20 to 29.

Most of the thefts occurred in the area around the Cherry Street residence where Weydener apparently was living. Police said he even stole his grandmother's credit cards and made $250 worth of purchases in Washington County.
