South Park Outdoor Ice Rink Opening

The rink was supposed to open last week, but warmer temperatures threw a wrench in that plan.

With cold weather quickly approaching, the Allegheny County Parks Department has announced that the South Park and North Park ice rinks will soon open for the 2011-12 ice skating season.

The official opening date was supposed to be Nov. 10, but warmer temperatures threw a wrench in that plan. The outdoor skating rinks will now be available (weather and conditions permitting) and the skating season will run through March 2012.

The ice rinks offer gift certificates, and the rinks are available to rent for special occasions. Both free and paid skating lessons are also available for county residents aged 5 and older.
