More Snow Expected This Weekend
A few inches of snow fell in the South Hills late Thursday night and more is expected over the weekend.
A flurry of snow showers pounded western Pennsylvania on Thursday night and it might get even uglier this weekend.
The few inches of snow Thursday night is expected to turn into sleet Friday, and that will likely spur the National Weather Service to issue a warning. If you just shoveled your driveway or sidewalk, get ready to do it again.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for a wintery mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow, going into effect at 7 p.m. Friday and ending at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The area is supposed to get 1/4-inch of ice and 1 to 4 inches of snow total. Tonight's low is 24 degrees, with a high of 32 Saturday.
Snow likely will start before midnight Saturday, then snow, freezing rain and sleet. New overnight snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is possible.

During the day on Saturday, there will be periods of snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 3 p.m., with a slight chance of snow between 3 and 4 p.m. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible.
Extremely hazardous travel conditions are expected, so motorists are asked to use caution and be prepared. Heavy ice accumulation also can put a lot of weight on tree limbs and power lines, causing them to fall.
Meanwhile, are gearing up to hit the roads this weekend.
“With heavy snow followed by a winter mix predicted through (Saturday) afternoon, we are preparing for challenging storm,” PennDOT assistant Maintenance Executive Jeff Karr said. “We are ready and will be out full force with everything we have as long as necessary.”
The roads were coated in a layer of snow Thursday night and likely led to a crash on Interstate 79 near the Carnegie exit. One car driving south on the highway rolled over in Collier Township causing delays on the interstate Thursday night. It was not immediately known if anyone was injured in the crash.
