in•form•al Arts Performance

Something new is forming at Dance Conservatory of Pittsburgh... an arts evening put together around the choreography of Bethel Park High School graduate Allison Garcia.  The event is the first in a series that is set to become a bi-annual pairing of young choreographers, student and professional dancers, artists, and local restaurants.

Garcia is a 24 year old artist who is choosing to continue to learn and invest in Pittsburgh.  She grew up in Bethel Park and began studying dance at age 4.  When she was in high school, she began to attend Dance Conservatory of Pittsburgh.  It was there that she learned to approach her movement with an understanding of dance history and how her body works anatomically.  Inspired by the independent spirit of Danielle Pavlik and Mariah McLeod, studio co-founders, she also developed a go-getter approach to life.

For two years, Garcia left her roots and studied at Ohio University.  She then transferred to Point Park University and thus returned to Pittsburgh.  Upon graduating, Allie embraced opportunities teaching Pilates (she is a fully certified Pilates instructor), teaching dance at Dance Conservatory of Pittsburgh, and performing professionally with H2O Contemporary Dance and Alexandra Bodnarchuk. While many graduates rush off, Allie sees the benefit of giving back to the community that shaped her. Garcia believes that “there is diverse dance in Pittsburgh, you just have to look for it.”

Garcia’s work for in•form•al will explore her impressions of the various roles women shift through in society.  As the dancers navigate through her concepts, she hopes the audience will be drawn in to share in the experience.

In the spirit of all art productions, Garcia’s event is being co-created by the other H2O company members engaging in what Garcia has to say and adding their own thoughts.    Jess Trocchio, Hannah Finch, and Garcia have enjoyed adventurous shopping trips to Construction Junction and Creative Re-use to dream up the event decor.  Hannah Finch is creating a series of paintings to display at the event, one of which all guests will be entered into a drawing to win.

Additional support for the event is being provided by local restaurants.  Franco’s Pizzeria Italiana and Someone Else’s Bar have both generously donated some of their delicious food.  There will also be a variety of homemade goods and wine/ cheese for the adult crowd.

All of us at DCP are very excited for this event and hope to have the support of our local community.

There is a $10 suggested donation for adults and $5 for children/artists.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to cancer research.
