Scott Library is pleased to invite all readers who enjoy historical fiction, particularly that which has Pittsburgh as its locale.  Mary Frailey Calland has written a novel which depicts the Pittsburgh region as residents are caught up in efforts to support the Union during the early days of the Civil War.  An important facility was the Arsenal Munitions factory in what is now Lawrenceville.  (This is now the Frank Clack Allegheny County Health Dept. building.) On September 17, 1861, there was an explosion and fire at this site, which resulted in many deaths, mostly of young boys and women.     Location: Main Meeting Room
