Red Cross Called To Assist Manorview Apartment Residents

Multiple local fire departments responded to the Manorview Apartment building in Scott Township, off of Green

The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army arrived just before 7 p.m. Tuesday to assist residents displaced after a fire at Manorview Apartments in Scott Township.

A kitchen fire broke out in one unit of the high rise around 5 p.m.

Scott Township Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Haberman said the fire was contained to the fifth-floor apartment, but that there is smoke and water damage to units on the fifth and sixth floors.

There are 50 apartment units in the building, he said, and residents will not be allowed to re-enter the building for at least two or three hours. If carbon monoxide levels are not reduced this evening, the Red Cross will assist residents in finding food and shelter for the night, he said.

Haberman said the fire was under control within half an hour. No injuries were reported, although some firemen were being monitored for heat issues. The Salvation Army arrived on scene at 7 p.m. and passed out water, coffee and food to residents and fire fighters.

Scott Township's three local departments—Glendale, Bower Hill and East Carnegie—responded, as well as departments from Dormont, Mt. Lebanon, Heidelberg and Kirwan Heights.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshall also was on scene.
